Niagara transfer Noah Thomasson is visiting Penn State April 28-29, college basketball insider Jon Rothstein tweeted Monday morning.

Per Rothstein, Thomasson is also visiting St. John’s and new coach Rick Pitino (April 25-26), and in-state rival Pitt (May 5-6). He’s already visited Georgia and San Francisco.

Thomasson played at Niagara for two seasons after starting his career at Houston Baptist (2019-20) and then playing the next season at Butler community college.

He turned into a star this past season, drastically improving his points per game average from 10.8 to 19.5, leading the MAAC in scoring. Thomasson is 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, and he’d be an excellent edition to Penn State’s back court.

The team is looking to account for the losses of Andrew Funk and Cam Wynter. Funk led the Big Ten in made 3-pointers and had one of the best games in Penn State history, exploding for 27 on eight 3s in the team’s NCAA Tournament win over Texas A&M last month.

Wynter helped Penn State get to the tournament, especially in March. On the month’s first night, he hit a last-second 3 in overtime to give Penn State a big road win over tournament bound Northwestern. Less than four days later, he hit a buzzer-beater to beat tournament-bound Maryland on Senior Day at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Both Funk and Wynter transferred to Penn State for their last year of college eligibility, and both transferred from small DI schools. Wyner was a 1,000-point scorer at Drexel, and Funk accomplished the same feat at Bucknell.

Thomasson’s another small-college star, and he also has one year of eligibility left. If Thomasson picks Penn State, he’d be the fourth player new coach Mike Rhoades and co. have landed from the portal, joining
