Penn State kept its recruiting momentum going by landing a player from a familiar high school.
Weeks after Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Zachary Gleason committed to Penn State’s 2027 class, one of his teammates did the same.
The newest commit is Jon Sassic, a three-star, 6-foot-6, 285-pound interior offensive lineman.
Others in the mix were Pitt, Florida State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Sassic also had offers from schools such as Boston College, NC State and UConn.
He’s the third player to commit to Penn State in as many days and the second offensive lineman.
On Friday, Penn State got a commitment from Owen Reilly, a three-star IOL from Maryland’s Bel Air High School. The next day, Jonathan Galette, a three-star safety from St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey, announced his commitment.
Now, Sassic has joined the party, and thus continued the Central Catholic-Penn State pipeline.
In the 2024 Class, receiver Peter Gonzalez and linebacker Anthony Speca each signed with Penn State. The next year, cornerback Xxavier Thomas signed with PSU. Gonzalez and Thomas are still with the program, and Speca transferred to Purdue over the winter.
Sassic’s commitment comes not long after Penn State offered him, which took place March 24.
After getting offered, Sassic told Lions247 what it meant to him.
“Being from PA, the offer means a lot, especially growing up watching Saquon (Barkley) and Trace McSorley play,” Sassic told 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn after Penn State extended its offer. “They were dawgs and it means a lot. My aunt, uncle, cousin and all went there and they were definitely pushing me for that one.”
Penn State now has 10 players committed to its 2027 class, which ranks 13th overall per 247Sports.
