Penn State has picked up a commitment from one of the best high school players in Pennsylvania.
Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports reported late Thursday afternoon that Stanley Montgomery, a four-star defensive tackle from Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia, has committed to Penn State’s 2027 Class.
247Sports has Montgomery as the No. 5 overall player in Pennsylvania from his class, along with the No. 6 DL and No. 65 overall player.
He had been committed to Syracuse, but de-committed in early February, four days after he visited Penn State for one of its Junior Day events. Montgomery also had offers from schools such as Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, NC State, Pitt, Rutgers, Northwestern, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
After Montgomery visited spring practice earlier this month, he told Lions247 he was impressed with Penn State’s first defensive line coach, Ikaika Malloe.
“What stood out to me was how technical coach Malloe is and how he can teach,” Montgomery said. “Coach Malloe is a really knowledgeable coach and very technical and you see that during indy periods and how much it helps, as the defensive line was making consistent plays during the scrimmage.”
Malloe also told Lions247 about his impressions of the PSU staff following his Junior Day visit.
