Penn State defensive end Mason Robinson has suffered another major setback just as he appeared ready to compete for a larger role on the Nittany Lions’ defensive front.
Robinson sustained an injury near the beginning of spring practice that is believed to be season-ending, per Mark Brennan of Lions247.
The 6’3″, 257 pound redshirt junior has yet to make his on-field debut for Penn State.
Robinson redshirted in 2023 as a true freshman and spent the 2024 season sidelined as well. He was regularly listed as unavailable on Penn State’s pregame injury reports and ultimately did not appear in a game during the year.
Last season, Robinson dressed only for Villanova but did not see any action.
His latest injury is especially unfortunate given the opportunity that seemed to be in front of him heading into 2026.
With turnover at defensive end creating openings on the depth chart with notable departures of Dani Dennis-Sutton and Chaz Coleman , Robinson was viewed as a potential contributor if he could stay healthy. During an open spring practice, he was reportedly working with the first-team defense, an indication that he had positioned himself to be part of the team’s plans.
Robinson came to Penn State from the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Maryland, a program that has produced several notable Nittany Lions, including Dennis-Sutton, linebacker Curtis Jacobs, as well as defensive linemen Dvon J-Thomas, and PJ Mustipher.
Penn State offered Robinson a scholarship in April 2021, continuing its strong recruiting ties with the school.
Now, instead of building momentum toward his first game action, Robinson faces another long recovery and an uncertain path forward.
