Four Penn State wrestling commits and signees competed this weekend at the PIAA State Championships in Hershey, and the two who were expected to win state championships did just that.

At 121, Norwin’s Landon Sidun capped off a 51-1 campaign by winning his second state title, tech-falling Connellsville’s Tommy Gretz 17-0.

At 215, future Penn State heavyweight Elijah Brown only got one point in his state championship match, but that point was enough to win it against Garnet Valley’s Paxton Hunt. It was Brown’s second consecutive state championship, and had Sidun not gotten injured last February, there’s a good chance this would have been his third straight.

Brown’s point came in the second period, and in the third, Hunt chose neutral, which Brown was expecting.

“I’m pretty known for my top game, so I’m sure he watched a lot of film,” Brown said via Greg Pickel of Blue-White Illustrated. “I’m sure he watched a lot of film. He’s not the first person to take neutral.”

Sidun came into the week having had his 82-match winning streak snapped at the PIAA West Regional final the previous weekend.

This could have affected Sidun’s confidence, but he wouldn’t let it.

“It did not discourage me,” Sidun said via Paul Schofield of the TribLive High School Sports Network. “It made me work harder and fine-tune some things. Every title is awesome. It was awesome to get back.”

Brown started his tournament with a pin in 34 second, won his quarterfinal bout 15-0 and his semifinal bout 4-1.

Sidun won his first two matches by tech fall and major decision respectively before getting a 7-6 win over Dominick Morrison of Hatboro-Horsham in a second tiebreaker.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Altoona’s Breiden Weaver, who is signed to Penn State’s 2026 Class, took fifth at 133. James Whitebread, a 2027 commit from State College Area High School, did the same at 152.
