It was reported early this morning by Sports King that the head coach of North Carolina, Hubert Davis, will be stepping down and the entire staff and general manager have already been informed. This comes after the No. 6 Tar Heels blew a 19-point lead with 14 minutes remaining against No. 11 VCU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
Does this mean that the UNC verbal commit, Dylan Mingo, is back in play to reunite with older brother, Kayden, only in State College?
Back on February 17th on ESPN First Take with Stephen A. Smith, the highly-touted 6′-5″ combo-guard announced his commitment to Chapel Hill.
He also said, though, during the interview that Penn State was his second school of choice to attend.
Mingo has yet to officially sign with the Tar Heels.
The No. 2 high school player in the country, per Rivals, had this to say about the possibility of sharing the backcourt with Kayden in Happy Valley:
“We will see. He (Kayden) texts me every day, he calls me every day. It’s crazy to even maybe have the opportunity to play with your brother. Even just watching last year’s film, we played very well together. We won a lot of games together. It’s honestly great. He wasn’t a highly touted kid, so seeing how he just kept working, it shows. He (Penn State coach Mike Rhoades) calls me a lot and talks about keeping his word as he did with my brother. He’s playing like 25-to-30-minutes a game. It’s all you can ask for as a freshman with the ball in your hands.”
An official announcement as to whether North Carolina keeps Davis in North Carolina is to be expected soon.
