Penn State wrestling has its second Class of 2027 commitment of the week, and it’s a big one.
Saturday afternoon, Penn State received a pledge from Clinton Shepherd, a 144-pounder from Indiana’s Crown Point High School.
MatScouts has Shepherd as the No. 6 pound-for-pound wrestler in the country from the Class of 2027 per MatScouts.
This makes him the fourth Class of 2027 commit in the Top 10 for Penn State, joining Landon Sidun, Greg Burnett— who committed Wednesday— and Gavin Mangano.
Penn State had competition for Shepard from fellow Big Ten schools such as Michigan, Ohio State and Nebraska. When Shepard released his top eight in August, Penn State wasn’t on it. But PSU made a comeback.
“After a lot of prayer I am proud to announce I’m committing to continue my academic and wrestling career at Penn State University,” Shepard posted to Instagram. “Thankful for my family, coaches and everyone who’s pushed me to get here and also God for the guidance to put in my heart where I felt at home for the place I will pursue and chase my goals.
Time to work!
WE ARE! 🔵⚪️.”
Shepard will wrestle this season at 150 pounds and projects to be at 157 or 165 pounds in college.
