Penn State Basketball: Penn State Falls To Pitt In the Keystone State Clash

The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Panthers met inside the GIANT Center this afternoon in Hershey, Pennsylvania in a Keystone State Clash, and it was the Panthers coming out the victors winning the contest, 80-46.

Pitt’s, Barry Dunning, Jr. and Damarco Minor got the Panthers rolling with a pair of threes to start the game.

Then Penn State’s, Kayden Mingo, answered with a drive that got him an and-1 to make the score 6-3 Panthers (17:21).

The Nittany Lions came out shooting cold until Freddie Dilione V. knocked in a three of his own to make the score 12-6 Panthers (14:52).

The Panthers were hot from deep shooting 5-of-8 at the (13:40) point in the first half. Penn State, though, kept battling back to make sure the sure the game did not get away from them.

At the (8:05) mark of the first half, it was Pitt leading PSU, 27-13. Dilione was leading the Nittany Lions with 8 points and Pitt’s Roman Siuleppa had 8 as well.

Penn State was struggling with Pitt’s ball movement, and they couldn’t get anything to drop from the offensive side of the ball. Pitt was getting easy conversions around the hoop.  The Panther’s, Cameron Corhen, had 6 points on 3-of-5 shooting (5:00).

Dilione was Penn State’s lone spark in the first half. He was carrying the Blue & White and keeping them in striking distance. With (2:22) left in the first half, Dilione had 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. It was the Panthers 35 Nittany Lions 20.

While the Panthers had a commanding 40-20 advantage led by Omari Witherspoon leading the Panthers with nine points and PSU’s Dilione was leading all scorers with 13.

To start the second half, Penn State came out the sharper team and were able to cut the lead to 17 by the first media timeout (16:07).

With (14:22) left to play, it was the Nittany Lions making a run and cutting the lead to 13, Pitt 41 PSU 28.

Pitt’s, Brandin Cummings, nailed a step-back three to stop the Penn State run, and it was the Panthers 44, Nittany Lions 30 with (11:24) to play. Pitt was shooting 38% from deep compared to Penn State’s 13%.

With (9:49) in the game, Pitt went on a run of their own to increase their lead to 19, making the score 51-32.

Pitt was getting back to controlling the game again. Siulepa exploded offensively with 10 quick points and at (7:17) mark of the second half, it was Pitt 59, Penn State 37. Siulepa was leading all scorers with 20 points.

Penn State was only shooting 31% from the field to Pitt’s 49% with (4:44) to play. At the (3:59) media timeout, it was Pitt in full control leading the Nittany Lions, 67-41.

Pitt did not let up on the Blue & White and with (2:00) to go, it was Pitt 74 Penn State 43.
