Penn State is still good at wrestling.
Not that the expectation was any different coming into the 2025-26 season, since PSU started the year No. 1.
But a 45-0 win over a ranked program is always going to be impressive regardless of how used Penn State fans have grown to winning, and that’s what the team accomplished in its season opener at the Bryce Jordan Center Friday night.
The win was Penn State’s 72nd consecutive in dual meet competition, which puts it five away from the Division I record, set by Oklahoma State between 1937 and 1951. The total NCAA record is 77, set by Division II St. Cloud State from 2017-2022. The NJCAA record is held by SUNY-Delhi (92) and the NAIA record is held by Grand View (115).
If Penn State wins every dual meet this season, it will be 15-0 and seven away from passing SUNY-Delhi.
The way things are going, all records are in play.
