Charlie Cerrato Earns BIg Ten Hockey First Star of the Week

Charlie Cerrato celebrates victory in the NCAA Tournament - Penn State Athletics

In the midst of forward Gavin McKenna’s debut, another Nittany Lion forward earned Big Ten weekly honors.

Sophomore forward Charlie Cerrato was named the Big Ten Hockey First Star of the Week following a six-point (2 goals, 4 assists) weekend against No. 14 Arizona State that earned the Nittany Lions the two-game sweep.

For Cerrato, it is the first career weekly accolade for the Fallston, Maryland native.

Through two games, Cerrato is second in the nation in scoring while being a +4 skater.

In Cerrato’s season debut, he netted two goals to go along with three assists, including the primary assist on the game-tying and game-winning goals in the third period of the Nittany Lion’s 6-3 victory.

Cerrato’s  five point performance is a career-best and tied a Nittany Lion single-game record.

Cerrato got the secondary assist on the game-tying goal in Saturday night’s 4-2 win.

Dating back to last season, Cerrato has had a point in 10 of his last 11 games to go along with seven multi-point performances.

No. 4 Penn State starts a two-game set beginning on Thursday against Clarkson for the Nittany Lion’s home opener.

The puck drops at 6:30 PM (Eastern), televised on Big Ten Network.
