With the new-look Big Ten, Penn State is going to have at least one particularly long road trip every year.
This year, that trip is to UCLA.
So how exactly is Penn State getting to California?
Well, it’s gonna take some bussing, and then a lot of flying.
Per former Penn State letterman Landon Tengwall of the Behind the Wall Poscast, Penn State will be bussing an hour and a half to Harrisburg on Thursday, then flying directly to California.
The fact that Penn State is flying out of Harrisburg, not State College, brings to mind Coach James Franklin’s take on the State College airport last season, prior to Penn State’s trip to USC.
“Not only are they (Penn State) one of most northeast schools, but based on runway, weight, size, fuel, can’t get out of here unless they stop for fuel,” he said. “With that, have to fly out of Harrisburg. That’s something to be discussed is increasing the size of the runway here and airport, for a lot of reasons – university, business, athletics now that they’ve decided to make this move as the Big Ten. That’s something they need to do for a lot of reasons. Now you’re talking about adding two hours on top of the 5 1/2 hour flight. That’s a big reason for leaving Thursday.”
No. 7 Penn State is scheduled to take on UCLA at 3:30 ET on CBS.
