In recruiting news, Penn State wrestling is in the mix for one of the top Class of 2027 prospects.
Grey Burnett, a star from Ohio’s Perrysburg High School, has Penn State in his top three along with Nebraska and Ohio State.
Nebraska finished second to Penn State at this year’s national championships, and Ohio State is located less than two and a half hours away from Burnett’s home.
Burnett, who competes at the 120-pound weight class, is the No. 15 overall recruit in the country from his class per FloWrestling.
Penn State fans should be well-familiar with Perrysburg High School because of Burnett’s most famous teammate, Marcus Blaze. Blaze was the top-ranked recruit from the Class of 2025 and will start his career at Penn State this winter.
With Blaze gone, there might be more attention paid to Burnett, and it’d be well-deserved.
He’s won two state championships and has put together a decorated career in folkstyle, too.
This spring, Burnett won the UWW U17 Trials in freestyle, which got him a world team spot.
Burnett has also placed at the Walsh Ironman twice and placed both times, finishing in fourth as a freshman and seventh last year. At Super 32, he finished third in 2023 and seventh last year.
“We’ll see if Burnett continues to go up in weight,” wrote and projects as a 133 lber or stays in the 125 lb range. Each of the three schools could use a long-term wrestler of Burnett’s caliber at 125 lbs.”
Penn State wrestling doesn’t yet have anybody committed to its 2027 recruiting class but it’s certainly looking, and it doesn’t have to look very far to find the No. 2 prospect.
Landon Sidun is one of the best wrestlers in Pennsylvania from his class, and a former Penn State wrestling star who came from Pennsylvania caught his eye at a young age.
“You grew up watching these programs all the time,” Sidun told Zac Seyko of Locked on Nittany Lions. “So, you finally get to talk to the Sandersons, you get to talk to all the coaches. So it’s almost surreal. These guys are talking to you because they want you to be a part of their team. So, I’m just super privileged about that.”
Penn State is also a finalist for the top-ranked Class of 2027 recruit, Melvin Miller. So there’s that.
