President Donald J. Trump has made health a cornerstone of his second administration.
One of his slogans is “MAHA” or “Make America Healthy Again” and has surrounded himself with like minded people to help crack America’s obesity crisis, where 42% are classified as obese per the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Last week, Trump signed an executive order establishing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. The order returned the Presidential Fitness Test for students in public schools that was removed in 2013 by the Obama administration.
The council was to be chaired by LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau, New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor, San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, WWE superstar Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and current Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley.
For Barkley, that was news to him.
According to PHLY’s Zach Berman, Barkley was ‘shocked’ at the announcement.
Barkley clarified his involvement with the Trump administration saying he was consulted about nutrition. According to Berman’s report, Barkley said was asked to join the President’s council but declined because of the time commitment.
