The transfer portal giveth, and the transfer portal taketh away. And the Penn State men’s basketball team is no exception. The Nittany Lions lost five players to the transfer portal from the 2024-25 team. Miles Goodman transferred to Oregon, Hudson Ward landed at Western Michigan, Jahvin Carter is at Middle Tennessee, Kachi Nzeh moved on to Little Rock and Joe Sedora is now at West Chester.
However with those losses, the Nittany Lions were able to add two versatile players to their roster from the transfer portal in Josh Reed and Sasa Ciani.
JOSH REED

Josh Reed is a 6′-8,” 220lb. Senior Forward who transferred to Penn State from Cincinnati. With the addition of Reed, he adds age, experience, and maturity to the roster. In his first three collegiate seasons as a Bearcat, Reed saw action in 97 games. Last year, he started in 9 of the final 10 games and finished with a season average of 4.8 PPG. and 2.5 RPG. scoring in double figures 6 times, all coming in the final 2 months of the season. In the Big 12 Tournament opener against Oklahoma State, Reed scored a career-high 19 points in the victory. Penn State head coach Mike Rhoades raved about the addition of the high-character, high-ceiling Atlanta native highlighting Reed’s versatility to handle the ball, shoot from the perimeter, and defend at a high level.
SASA CIANI

Sasa Ciani, who is from Nova Gorica, Slovenia, is not only 1 of the 2 transfer portal additions, but he is also 1 of the 4 European talents added to the upcoming roster. The 6′-10,” 240 lb. Junior Forward transferred to State College from the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) of the Missouri Valley Conference. As a Freshman, Ciani played at Xavier. At UIC last year, Ciani averaged 9.9 PPG. and a team-best 7.6 RPG. while shooting an incredible 53.3% from the field. He also registered 11 double-doubles last year scoring in double figures 18 times. Coach Rhoades on Ciani, “He is a veteran that will give us front-court experience, size and versatility. We’re looking forward to the leadership, intense play and toughness that he will bring to our program.”
Both Reed and Ciani’s experience and size will be an upgrade to a young Nittany Lion squad who will be searching for an identity.
