Mike Rhodes has landed his first addition through the transfer portal.
According to Joe Tipton of On3, Cincinnati guard Josh Reed has committed to Penn State.
A 6-foot-7 junior from Atlanta, Reed averaged 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds per game, and shot 41% from the field in 33 contests with the Bearcats.
His best game came in an 87-68 Big 12 Tournament victory against Oklahoma State, scoring 19 points on 8-12 shooting in 32 minutes.ย
Reed scored in double figures six times, but not before the start of February. He started nine of Cincinnatiโs final 10 games and never played below 19 minutes. The lone exception was on senior night.ย
Reed started both of Cincinnatiโs games in the College Basketball Crown, including six points and two rebounds against UCF, before fouling out in what became his final game at the program.ย
He blossomed onto the scene this season as a solid defender, capable but never found a groove offensively before the final two months. Reed 1.5 PPG and 1.7 RPG as a freshman and 2.0 PPG and RPG in his first two years at Cincinnati, never scoring more than 10 points per game (against Bryant as a freshman).
Penn State is the last of the Big Tenโs 18 teams to add a player through the portal this recruiting cycle. The Nittany Lions missed the Big Ten Tournament but upset No. 16 Wisconsin 86-75 in Madison on March 8 to end the season on a positive note.
