Penn State could be without one of its most productive offensive weapons Saturday against Purdue, as wide receiver Chase Sowell was listed as questionable on Wednesday night’s initial Big Ten availability report.
Sowell’s designation raises questions about his availability as the Nittany Lions prepare for another critical conference matchup.
However, there is reason for optimism.
Sowell was listed as probable ahead of Penn State’s matchup against Michigan before delivering a career performance against the Wolverines. The receiver also participated in a scheduled media availability Tuesday, although that does not guarantee he will be cleared to play Saturday.
Sowell wasn’t the only Penn State receiver appearing on Wednesday’s report.
Sophomore Koby Howard remains questionable as he continues working toward a return.
Head coach Matt Campbell reiterated Wednesday that Howard’s availability remains uncertain, emphasizing that the coaching staff will not rush him back.
“I’m not putting him on that football field until he’s 100% ready to go,” Campbell said.
Elsewhere, defensive end Alex McPherson and tight end Brian Kortovich were listed as questionable, while defensive tackle Alijah Carnell is doubtful.
Starting defensive end Yvan Kemajou, defensive tackle Armstrong Nnodim and safety Jeremiah Cooper received probable designations.
One encouraging development involved defensive end LaVar Arrington II, who was absent from the availability report after being listed as out throughout the season.
For Purdue, wide receiver De’Nylon Morrissette and starting safety Jaden Mangham were both listed as questionable.
Penn State’s availability report will be updated as Saturday’s kickoff approaches.
