Penn State Wrestling: Mitchell Mesenbrink Swept at Final X

Penn State's top-ranked Mitchell Mesenbrink takes second-ranked Mikey Caliendo.

Penn State wrestling star Mitchell Mesenbrink will not be representing Team USA at this year’s World Championships.

Mesenbrink, who won his first national title this March in Philadelphia, took on Iowa State great David Carr in a best two out of three series at Final X in Newark, New Jersey.

Carr won the first bout 4-3 and the second one 4-4 on criteria, which means that Carr had the highest amount of points in a single hold. So now, Carr will be representing Team USA at 74 KG. Mesenbrink will still be on the national team as an alternate.

Regardless, Penn State has Mesenbrink back for this season, where he’ll be a heavy favorite to win it all again at 165 pounds.
