One of Penn State football’s most recent recruiting wins wasn’t a big name at this time last year.
By his own admission, it took Isaac “Chuck” Chukwurah a while to get noticed.
But that changed thanks to Chukwurah’s monster junior season at Caravel Academy in Bear, Delaware.
Before the campaign, he didn’t have any Power Four offers.
Now, he has 20.
Granted, only four of them were from Power Four programs, and Chukwurah feels he should have had more. But Penn State was one of those four, and that was the one he wanted most of all.
“What made Penn State an ideal fit for me was the culture of the program,” Chukaurah told NSN. “You can see the culture on the outside but it’s even stronger on the inside of the building. I also like the coaches. Coach Franklin and Coach Barnes are great people on and off the field. It also makes it easier when it’s your dream school.”
‘AGGRESSIVELY AND FAST’
Penn State has produced multiple NFL-quality defensive ends just in the past few years alone.
Chop Robinson was a first-round pick in 2024.
Abdul Carter was the No. 3 overall pick just last week.
It’s far too early to say whether Chukwurah will follow in those lines.
But he feels Penn State’s defensive style suits him.
“I play aggressively and fast,” he said, “I’m quick off the ball, and I play in the backfield. Coach (Deion) Barnes likes his defensive line to get off the ball fast, create knock back and produce and that fits me.”
So what does Chukwurah feel his biggest strengths are?
“My ability to play fast, long, and physical,” he said. “My length allows me to defeat blocks violently.”
THE CHIP
Make no mistake, not having offers going into last season motivated Chukwurah.
“Nobody had a clue who i was until the start of my junior season,” he said. “That definitely gave me a chip on my shoulder and I played with it all season.
Away from football, Chukwurah loves to fish.
Penn State and its fans hope they just reeled in a star.
