It’s official: Penn State has landed one of the top available receivers in the spring transfer portal.

Tuesday morning, Penn State officially announced Syracuse transfer Trebor Peña as the newest Nittany Lion signee.

A 5-foot-10, 185-pound receiver from Ocean Township, New Jersey, Peña enters Happy Valley as a redshirt senior coming off a breakout campaign.

Peña caught 84 passes for 941 yards and nine touchdowns last year. He earned second-team all-ACC honors and led the team in all three majors categories. Peña’s 84 catches were the most by any ACC receiver.

In 13 games (10 starts), Peña averaged 72.4 yards and caught two touchdowns in three separate games. He bookended his year with two apiece against Ohio and Washington State, while also grabbing a pair against Georgia Tech in the second game of the season.

Peña’s two best games came against the two newest members of the conference. Peña caught 10 balls for 101 yards against Stanford and 11 passes for 97 yards in Berkeley against Cal. He set a career-high with 128 yards receiving against Miami in the ACC regular-season finale Nov. 30

He returned 15 punts during his redshirt junior year and ranked 20th in the nation in receiving touchdowns. Peña has one season of eligibility after redshirting in 2023 due to an injury limiting him to only one game.

Prior to 2024 Peña was limited to three catches in his first two seasons. He caught 22 for 203 yards in 2022 but didn’t find the end zone. His first career touchdown came in 2021.

Peña committed to Penn State the morning of the Blue-White Game April 26.

Peña started only one game before last year’s breakout. He will likely contribute in the slot with Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy) factoring outside. Drew Allar, Nick Singleton, Kaytron Allen, and four starters on the offensive line return with Andy Kotelnicki at the helm for a second season leading the offense. Penn State has the pieces to take the final step forward in 2025, if it can put them all together.
