The Penn State 2025 offense is certainly set at quarterback, running back and offensive line but could need help elsewhere if it truly wants to contend for a championship.
Tight end Tyler Warren was the best tight end in college football last season and is less than a week from becoming an NFL first-round draft pick, so his departure is a huge void in the passing game.
As it was last season, the wide receiver position is a question mark and James Franklin is looking to do something about that.
College football recruiting insider Pete Nakos from On3 Sports is reporting that former Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena, the top wide receiver in the transfer portal, is making a visit to Penn State today.
Pena was Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord’s top target last season making 84 catches for 941 yards and 9 touchdowns and was also Syracuse’s top punt returner.
His departure from Syracuse was unexpected after having been named a team captain by head coach Fran Brown in December.
Like with former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, this transfer has received national headlines following comments from Pena’s former head coach.
It’s being reported that Pena wants over $2 million in the transfer portal, which got this reaction from Brown, “You gonna make $2 million at wide receiver? That’s the homie at Ohio State (Jeremiah Smith),” Brown said. “Ain’t nobody else making that money. I’m not giving no wide receiver $2 million in college. That ain’t me. I ain’t doing that unless they tell me we have a chance to have Travis Hunter come back to college. He can come here and play for us, then he gonna get some of my check.”
Last season, the two leading wide receivers for Penn State were Harrison Wallace III with 46 catches for 720 yards and 4 touchdowns; and Omari Evans with 21 catches for 415 yards and 5 touchdowns. However, both players entered the transfer portal with Evans leaving for Washington and Wallace to Ole Miss.
