Upsets work both ways in sports and that applies even to the empire that is Penn State wrestling.
Penn State was on the right end of an upset Saturday night when No. 4 Luke Lilledahl upset top-ranked Matt Ramos of Purdue at 125.
But roughly a half hour later, Penn State was on the wrong end when No. 1 Beau Bartlett fell to Minnesota’s Vance VomBaur, seeded fourth.
VomBaur set the tone with a takedown in the first period and never let Bartlett back into the match, winning 5-3 and not allowing Bartlett to get a takedown. This means that Bartlett, who’s out of eligibility after this season, will end his college career without a Big Ten title.
The good news for Bartlett is that he still has a chance to win a national title later this month in Philadelphia.
