Abdul Carter believes he should be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
He has a good argument.
The 2024 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and consensus All-American recorded 12 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles in 16 games at Penn State a season ago.
A detriment to the argument is an injury, especially when it’s unexpected. Still fully recovering from an arm injury that took him out of the Fiesta Bowl, Carter received news of another ailment in draft preparation.
Multiple reports on Wednesday night indicated Carter has a stress reaction in his right foot that may require surgery.
Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN “there are mixed opinions” on whether Carter requires surgery. One day later, the outlook appears much better for the 21-year-old defensive end.
Adam Schefter and ESPN updated their report Thursday morning that, after undergoing further evaluations, doctors told Carter surgery is NOT advisable.
“I couldn’t be more confident that this will be a non-factor where he’s drafted,” Rosenhaus told the media.
Carter will workout for general managers, coaches, and scouts at his Pro Day on March 28 at Penn State inside Holuba Hall.
He’s been nothing but adamant that he should go No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans or whoever might be willing to trade up for the top pick to draft the Philadelphia native.
“You can’t stop GREATNESS! Y’all thought I was going that easy? This just gonna make the movie more interesting! See y’all March 28th… Bring ya popcorn… #1 OVERALL PICK, 56 days,” Carter tweeted Thursday.

Carter only participated in the interview portion of the combine and opted out of on-field drills and testing. He would have participated in Thursday’s drills alongside other invited defensive linemen and linebackers. The NFL Scouting Combine runs through Sunday.
