One of Penn State football’s best players was asked about his future plans during a press conference Saturday afternoon.
As expected, Nicholas Singleton didn’t say much.
Singleton, a 6-foot, 226-pounder, told reporters that he hasn’t decided whether he wants to stay in school or go to the NFL.
He has one year of eligibility remaining. Penn State would certainly love for him to use it. Singleton has been a staple of Penn State’s offense almost since day one. He broke 1,000 yards as a freshman in 2022. He then accomplished that feat again this season. Singleton clinched it on a 58-yard TD run that iced Penn State’s Fiesta Bowl/College Football Playoff quarterfinal win over Boise State New Year’s Eve.

WOULD IT MAKE SENSE FOR SINGLETON TO RETURN?

So does it make sense for Singleton to return to Penn State for a final season of eligibility? It does. But both sides of the argument are logical.
Singleton is the fourth-ranked running back in the Draft per Mel Kiper Jr. This seems good on the surface. But considering there are years where a running back doesn’t even go in the first round, perhaps Singleton could improve his stock with another year.
As Penn State tight end Tyler Warren has shown this season with his Mackey Award-winning performance, there are people who can benefit from staying another year.

Is Singleton one of them? Time will tell.
PAT MCAFEE’S PREDICTION

SEATTLE, WA – October 14: ESPN Gameday host Pat McAfee was at the University of Washington for the college football game between the University of Washington and the Oregon Ducks on October 14, 2023 at Husky Stadium in Seattle, WA. (Photo by Jesse Beals/Icon Sportswire)
Penn State just had two runners reach 1,000 yards in a season for the first time in program history, and both could be coming back, per Pat McAfee.
McAfee, while talking with legendary coach Nick Saban on Thursday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” said that Penn State “allegedly” could have Singleton (1,015 yards, nine touchdowns, 6.5 yards per carry) and Kaytron Allen (1,026 yards, eight touchdowns, 5.1 YPC) back for 2025.
“Penn State is setting themselves up for the long haul, here, and allegedly, Singleton and Allen, who are both juniors, they’re going to be coming back, allegedly, too, for them. It’s like, Penn State’s setting up, here,” McAfee said.
