No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink (Penn State) vs. No. 7 Bubba Wilson (Nebraska)

Nobody scores in the first minute. Wilson gets a stall called on him 20 seconds later. With 1:07 left, Mesenbrink gets a takedown to make it 3-9. Mesenbrink controls the rest of the period and ends with 1:08 of riding time. Mesenbrink started the second period on bottom and quickly got an escape, followed by another takedown to make it 7-0. Two escapes brought Wilson to 7-2, but another stall call made it 8-2 Mesenbrink since tsk stall calls are worth a point. A late takedown by Mesenbrink put him in line for a bonus point win.

With more than a minute left, Mesenbrink got the tech fall and ended the night.

No. 5 Tyler Kasak (Penn State) vs. No. 3 Antrell Taylor (Nebraska)

Nothing happened in the first minute in a half. But a takedown by Kasak followed by a near fall made it 7-0. An escape by Taylor made it 7-1. Thatโ€™s how it remained going into the last period. Taylor started the second period on top, but Kasak quickly escaped to make it 8-1. With 25 seconds left in the second, Kasak was poked in the eye but didnโ€™t want injury time. It stayed 8-2 going into the last period. With 53 seconds left, Kasak secured riding time. 30 seconds later, Kasak got called for a stall, narrowing his lead to 8-3. Thatโ€™s how the final score would read.

No. 2 Shayne Van Ness (Penn State) vs. No. 4 Ridge Lovett (Nebraska)

Neither wrestler scores in the first minute. The same goes for the next minute, were the ref warns both for inactivity. It remains scoreless going into the second period. Van Ness started the second period on bottom, then got a reversal to go ahead 2-0. Lovett escaped while Van Ness was on top to pull between 2-1. It remained 2-1 going into the third period. About 30 seconds into the last period, Lovett got an escape and then a takedown to go ahead 5-2. With 30 seconds left, Lovett got four points for a near fall to make it 9-2. Lovett ended up getting a major point win, 10-2.

No. 3 Beau Bartlett (Penn State) vs. No. 6 Brock Hardy (Nebraska)

Nobody scored in the first minute, with ended with Bartlett having control of Hardyโ€™s foot. He ended up getting a takedown, going ahead 3-0. A Hardy reversalโ€” in which he now took control of Bartlettโ€™s footโ€” made it 3-2. But after this, Hardy had to be checked out for concussion protocol. Coming out of protocol, Bartlett got a reversal to go ahead 5-2. Hardy then got an escape to make it 5-3. Thatโ€™s how the score stood going into the second period. Hardy started the second period on top, and Bartlett escaped within three seconds. At the minute mark of the second, Bartlett got a stall warning. Bartlett ended the third period up three. In a reversal of the last period, Hardy made it 6-4 with an escape. He then got a takedown to go ahead 7-6. The crowd wanted a second stall call on Bartlett but did get it. With 15 seconds lefty Bartlett got a reversal to go ahead 8-7. Nebraska coach Mark Manning threw a challenge brick to see if Bartlett got the reversal before Hardy got a minute of riding time. The call was confirmed, and Bartlett won, leaving the mat to boos from the crowd directed at the officials.

No. 5 Braeden Davis (Penn State) vs. No. 16 Jacob Van Dee (Nebraska)

Van Dee almost got a fall a minute in but had to settle for a near fall. But that near fall gave him four points to put him up 7-0. An emphatic takedown by Davis in the last minute brought Davis to within 7-4. But a reversal in the final seconds gave Van Dee a 9-4 lead going into the second period.

A quick escape in the second period brought Davis to within 9-5. Another escape cut it to three. Van Dee held his 9-6 lead going into the last period. Davis started the last period on top, and Van Dee escaped to go back up by four. A takedown with 1:15 left put Van Dee ahead 13-6. An escape cut Davisโ€™ deficit to six. Finally, the Nebraska fans had something to cheer about.

No. 12 Luke Lilledahl (Penn State) vs. No. 6 Caleb Smith (Nebraska)

There wasnโ€™t a point scored in the first minute. The same thing happened in the next minute, with both lightweights displaying quickness. The period ends at 0-0. Lilledahl starts the second period on top, and Smith got a quick escape to go ahead 1-0. The ref called for โ€œno fingersโ€ four times within the first five minutes. Lilledahl enters the third period on bottom. ย He tied it with an escape within 12 seconds. With 1:20 left, Smith got a stall warning, getting boos from the home crowd directed at the official. A sequence that showcased speed led to Lilledahl going ahead 4-1, and a late escape by Smith was too late.

No. 2 Greg Kerkvliet (Penn State) vs. No. 24 Harley Andrews (Nebraska)

Andrews went for a โ€œhome runโ€ takedown early, getting cheers from the crowd, but Kerkvliet ended up taking him down to to go up 3-0. By the end the period, Kerkvliet had 2:20 of riding time. In eight seconds, Kerkvliet escaped with a roll, and got a reversal to push the lead to 5-0. To make matters worse for Andrews, he got called for stalling to make it 6-0. But be quickly got a reversal to make it 6-2. But a Kerkvliet near fall made it 8-2 and an escape made it 9-2. A takedown at the buzzer made it 12-2 and put Kerkvliet in line for a bonus point win. He ends up getting a tech fall with 48 seconds left, 20-2.

No. 4 Josh Barr (Penn State) vs. No. 22 Camden McDanel (Nebraska)

No points were scored in the first minute. The same holds true for the second minute, with Barr attempting to get a double-leg takedown. With 18 seconds left, Barr attempts another double-leg. This one was successful, and Barr went up 3-0. McDaniel started the second period on top but Barr escaped to make it 4-0. ย A quick takedown after that made it 7-0 Barr. Barr ends up back on top, and but the end of the period, he had 1:24 of riding time. McDaniel gets a quick escape to start the third, making it 7-1, but a quick takedown but Barr in-line for a bonus point win. Barr ends up getting his second tech fall of the season and tenth bonus point win, 19-4.

No. 1 Carter Starocci (Penn State) vs. No. 7 Silas Allred (Nebraska)

Starocci got the scoring started with a takedown with 1:16 left in the first period to go ahead 3-0. He keeps riding time for the last 1:20 of the first period and starts on top in the second. Allred stopped riding time at 1:45 and got a point with an escape to make it 3-1. Starocci gets a takedown with less than a minute left to go ahead 6-1 and increases his riding time to past two minutes, securing it for the match. Allred starts the first period on top, but Starocci gets an escape within five seconds to push the lead to 7-

With less than a minute left, Starocci gets a takedown to make it 10-1 and put himself in line for a major decision. He ends up winning 11-2, making him 11-0 with 11 bonus point wins.

No. 2 Levi Haines (Penn State) vs. No. 15 Lenny Pinto (Nebraska)

Nobody scored in the first minute, but the two scramble for the last 20+ seconds. Haines gets a takedown with 1:14 left in the first period to go ahead 3-0. Haines is able to keep riding time for the rest of the period. In the second, Haines gets a quick escape to push the lead to 4-0. Not much happens for the next 30 seconds, and the ref eventually calls for โ€œoffense.โ€ Much like earlier, Haines tried to go for a single leg takedown, and Pinto turned it into a scramble. Near the end of the second, Haines was ruled to have picked up a takedown but the ref quickly waved it off. So it stayed 4-9 going into the last period. Haines started the third period with riding time, but Pinto got a reversal to make it 4-2. An escape made it 5-2 Haines. A takedown with eight seconds left clinched it, and Haines got an extra point due to having two-plus minutes of riding time.

Penn State wrestling is looking to win its 64th-consecutive dual meet, and a formidable foe stands in the way.

Nebraska (6-1) is ranked No. 7 in the country with its only loss being at No. 5 Northern Iowa Jan. 5.

It was Nebraska, not fellow Big Ten powers Iowa or Ohio State, that gave Penn State its biggest scare of last season.

Nebraska led Penn State 10-3 at one point and 10-6 at intermission before Penn State took control, eventually getting a 22-13 win.
