Dilione’s Career Night Not Enough as Penn State Basketball Falls to No. 15 Oregon

Jackson Shelstad led six double-digit scorers for the Ducks with 17 points as Oregon beat Penn State 82-81, ending the Nittany Lions home winning streak at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Freddie Dilione V scored a career-high 21 points as Nick Kern Jr. (19 points, eight rebounds and four assists), Puff Johnson (15 points) and Zach Hicks (14 points) combined for 48 points.

Key First-Half Moment: Oregon threatened to pull away early as it took a 14-point lead by the 8:11 mark behind the shooting of Jackson Shelstad (2-of-3 from 3) and Keeshawn Barthelemy (2-of-4 from 3). PSU stayed within striking distance, though, after two Zach Hicks free throws capped off a 7-0 run, bringing the Nittany Lions to within seven at the intermission.

Key Second-Half Moment: Penn State used a 7-0 run early into the half to tie the game at 49 apiece. The Nittany Lions outscored Oregon 34-18 through the opening 14 minutes of the half to take a nine-point lead.

Turning Point: After Penn State led by as many as nine with 6:34 left, Oregon closed on a 23-13 run. Shelstad hit a pull-up jumper with 47 seconds left to give the Ducks an 80-78 lead as Jadrian Tracey (13 points) iced the game at the free-throw line.

Penn State’s next game will be on the road against No. 16 Michigan State on Wednesday.
