Penn State football’s star defensive end was ruled a gametime decision leading up to the College Football Playoff Semifinal, but Abdul Carter is cleared and is playing against Notre Dame Thursday night.
Carter, who injured his left shoulder in last week’s Fiesta Bowl win over Boise State, warmed up in full uniform and took reps with the first team ahead of the Orange Bowl matchup with the injured shoulder heavily wrapped.
Star Penn State edge Abdul Carter has his injured left shoulder heavily wrapped. Expect him to play tonight, but he may be used more situationally. He averages 46 snaps a game. Weโll see if heโs healthy enough to get near that tonight. pic.twitter.com/DCoowheGVW

While Carter will play, it is still uncertain if he will play a high number of snaps. He averages 46 snaps per game. Nonetheless, it is significant news as Penn State receives the help of its best defensive player and pass rusher against Notre Dame.
He made a tackle on the third play of the game.
Penn State head coach James Franklin told ESPN regarding Carter earlier on Thursday evening that “all indications he’s given me in the week of preparation have been positive.”
The 6-foot-3, 252-pound junior has recorded 63 total tackles (40 solo), 21.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, three passes defended and two forced fumbles.
