Prugar’s Three-And-Out: Penn State airs it out in Lopsided defeat

Tyler Warren celebrates his first half score with teammates Liam Clifford and Julian Fleming.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State came out of the by week and did exactly what they needed to do against Kent State, dominate. The Nittany Lions dominated in large part because of an aerial attack that torched the Golden Flashes.

Quarterbacks Drew Allar, Tyler Warren, yes, Tyler Warren, and Beau Pribula combined for 409 passing yards and seven of the eight touchdowns scored Saturday afternoon. It was a record breaking performance for Penn State who had 718 total yards, breaking a record set in 1926 against Susquehanna of 711 yards.

It was the domination Penn State wanted against Bowling Green throughout that contest, but this game provided well-needed domination as the Nittany Lions move on to conference play next week against Illinois.

SPREADING THE WEALTH

Eight different Penn State players found the end zone against Kent State. Warren got it started with a 16-yard touchdown reception from Allar. Then is was Warren who threw a touchdown pass of his own to Nicholas Singleton, a 17-yard reception.

Liam Clifford got in on the action next with a 14-yard reception from Allar who then took it on his own for a five-yard run to put the Nittany Lions up 28-0 entering the half.

Allar found Omari Evans for a 59-yard strike after the half before Pribula and tight end Khalil Dinkins hooked up for a 13-yard reception later in the third quarter.

Cam Wallace found his way into the end zone from a yard out in the fourth quarter to be the seventh different Nittany Lion to find the scoreboard. Pribula would take it in himself from a yard out to cap the scoring at 56 late in the fourth quarter.

TYLER. WARREN.

It’s not very often a player finds himself in the stat column in rushing, passing and receiving, but Warren did it once again for Penn State Saturday against the Golden Flashes.

Warren hauled in five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown while also rushing the ball once for 16 yards. A high school quarterback, Warren has routinely lined up in the WarrenCat formation at quarterback and on this afternoon he threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Singleton.

Warren has shown he can be versatile and having a player as uniquely talented as he is will be something to watch for during conference play.

PROTECTING THE COMMONWEALTH

Kent State played three teams from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania this season including Saint Francis, an FCS school, and were handed defeats in all three contests.

Against the Nittany Lions, the Golden Flashes lost starting quarterback Devin Kargman on the second play of the game and struggled to gain the 67 yards they did manage.

It was a purely dominant defeat defensively as Penn State allowed only six first downs in the contest.
