Two Penn State greats have are among the nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
It was announced late Wednesday morning that former linebacker NaVorro Bowman and former OL Steve Wisnewiski are two of the 167 modern-era players up for the Hall.
PENN STATE GREAT NAVORRO BOWMAN
Bowman is the name that will probably be the miller recognizable of the two, one because he played more recently and two because LBs are generally payed more attention to than OL. Bowman played at Penn State from 2006-2009 and was part of some top defenses. In 2008, he was a first-team All-Big Ten performer, helping PSU to the Big Ten Championship and Rose Bowl. From there, Bowman started his pro career, which lasted for eight seasons, almost entirely with the San Francisco 49ers with a cup of coffee in Oakland. In those eight season, Bowman made four-first team All-Pro squads and helped San Fran to three NFC title games and a Super Bowl appearance in February 2012.
This is Bowman’s third year on the ballot.
PSU GREAT STEVE WISNEWSKI
Wisnewski has been waiting for a while, with his last game being in the 2001 season. Wisnewski played at Penn State from 1985-88, where he was part of the 1986 national championship squad and a first-team All-American in 1988. From there, he started his pro career, which he spent all 13 seasons of in Oakland. In that time, he was:
🏈 An eight-time Pro Bowler
🏈 A two-time first-team All-Pro
🏈 Had eight total All-Pro selections in 13 seasons
🏈 Started all 206 games he played in
🏈 Called for just 12 holding penalties in his career.
The next step in the Hall of Fame selection process is to narrow the lost to 50.
