University Park— Penn State didn’t come out of its 55-13 win over Buffalo at Beaver Stadium Saturday unscathed.
Two of its key offensive players, center Brock Riker and tight end Andrew Rappleyea, left the game with injuries in the first half.
The good news is that neither injury appears to be major.
WHAT CAMPBELL SAID
“Both guys, just kind of dinged up,” Campbell said. “We didn’t really know where we would be with Brock going into the game. We wanted to at least kind of get him out there. It still didn’t feel like he was at 100 percent. I just didn’t feel like it was the right situation to leave him in the game.”
“Really, same thing with Rapp,” Campbell said. Rapp could have went back into the football game. “I just didn’t feel like that was the right situation for the betterment of the football team.”
WE’LL KNOW MORE SOON
Campbell has been open with media who have asked about injured players, so it’s likely we’ll know more about the status of Riker and Rappleyea late Tuesday morning when Campbell gives his weekly press conference. If for whatever reason we don’t find out more then, we will come Wednesday night when Penn State must publish an availability report that is now mandatory for each Big Ten game.
Both players are guys Penn State will want to have at 100% for the Big Ten season. Riker is Penn State’s starting center. Rappleyea caught a touchdown pass Saturday and is one of the best blocking tight ends in college football.
Penn State takes on Wisconsin at 5 Saturday, Sept. 20, in Beaver Stadium on Peackcock.
