University Park– As expected, Penn State destroyed Buffalo Saturday 55-13.
QB Rocco Becht was effective once again, completing 11 of 19 passes for 212 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
For the first time since Sept. 2018, Penn State had a 100-yard rusher and 100-yard receiver, with Quinton Martin Jr. going for 100 rushing and Koby Howard posting 115 and a receiving score.
PSU was excellent running the ball, posting 284 yards and five touchdowns on 34 carries.
Penn State drew first blood on a 48-yard Ryan Barker field goal.
Penn State rolled on its next drive, going 81 yards on six plays in 2:33. The drive ended on a 16-yard rush by James Peoples.
PSU added on quickly after. A fumble forced by Caleb Bacon and recovered by Ike Ezeogu set Penn State up at the Buffalo 20. Four plays later, Penn State scored again, with Becht finding a wide-open Andrew Rappleyea for a 3-yard score.
Aided by a pair of 15-yard penalties, Buffalo had first and goal from the Penn State 5 late in the first quarter. But the PSU defense stiffened and held Buffalo to a field goal.
On Penn State’s next drive, it drove to the Buffalo 7 and had first and goal after a 61-yard run by Quinton Martin Jr. But Penn State had to settle for another Barker field goal.
Later in the second quarter, Penn State added on with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Becht to Koby Howard, which put Howard over 100 yards receiving.
After a meaningless Buffalo field goal made it 34-6 toward the end of the first game, a 12-yard touchdown run by Carson Hansen on the first possession of the third quarter put Penn State up by five scores.
Peoples added his second touchdown to pile on and put Penn State ahead in Vegas on the scoreboard, and Cam Wallace got in on the fun with a 59-yard run.
Penn State opens Big Ten play next week against Wisconsin at Beaver Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 on Peacock.
