So Close: Penn State Wrestling Legend Aaron Brooks Falls in Semifinal Match on Last-Second Exchange

Photo by Penn State Athletics (Mark Selders): Aaron Brooks

Penn State wrestling legend Aaron Brooks is having one of the best years any PSU athlete has ever had.

Thursday in Paris featured some of the best and worst of that year.

After winning two matches to put himself in the semifinals, Brooks fell to Bulgaria’s Magomed Ramazanov 4-3, with a last-second exchange being the difference.

Brooks got the scoring started with a stall call, then a takedown shortly after to go up 3-0. After the break, the Bulgarian got a takedown to make it 3-2.

It looked like Brooks was going to hold on, but Ramazanov flipped him over with less than four seconds left to win, 4-3.

Brooks still has a chance to medal, and will compete in the repackage, which is scheduled for 5 a.m. Friday.
