Penn State wrestling legend Aaron Brooks is an Olympic Medalist.
The four-time national champion, 2024 Dan Hodge Trophy Winner and U.S. representative at 86 KG took care of Uzbekistan’s Javrail Shapiev, 5-0.
Brooks led 1-0 at the intermission, getting a point when the ref called Shapiev for passivity and didn’t score within the 30-second time limit to make up for it.
Coming out of the first three minutes, Brooks went up 2-0 on a pushout.
Then, when Brooks himself faced a 30-second stall warning, he got a clutch takedown to make it 4-0 and added another point to close the deal.
It wasn’t the medal Brooks wanted. He came within seconds of wrestling Iran’s Hassan Yazdani in the Gold Medal match but fell 4-3 to Blugaria’s Magomed Ramazanov on a last-second takedown.
Nonetheless, Brooks will forever be an Olympic Medalist, and at 24, there’s no reason to think this year’s games will be his last shot.
