Olympics: Kyle Snyder Drops Bronze Medal Match, Won’t Medal for 1st Time

Nittany Lion Wrestling Club Star Kyle Snyder shocked the world by winning a Gold Medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, then took Silver at the 2020 games in Tokyo.

Coming into this summer’s Paris games, the expectation was that Snyder, competing again at 97 kg, would at least make it to the podium.

Unfortunately for Snyder and Team USA, that didn’t end up being the case.

After competing hard but dropping his semifinal bout to World Champion and 21-year-old phenom Akhmed Tazhudinov 6-4, Snyder still has a chance to win a Bronze medal, which would have put him at 3-for-3 in medaling at the Olympics.

But Iran’s Anirali Azarpira had other ideas and beat Snyder, 4-1, not allowing a takedown.

Snyder, 28, will be 32 by the time the 2028 LA Games roll around. One would think he’d still be competing, but it’s not a guarantee for any wrestler in their 30s, so time will tell.
