Penn State Priority Target Committing July 11

One of Penn State football’s top Class of 2025 targets has set his commitment date.

On Monday night, Lex Cyrus, an in-state, four-star, 5-foot-10, 170-pound WR from Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, announced that he’ll be committing Thursday, July 11 at 3:00 in a ceremony taking place at his high school.

Cyrus is choosing between Penn State and South Carolina, and of those two, Penn State is the favorite.

Both of 247Sports’ crystal ball projections have him picking Penn State.

Cyrus has been on Penn State’s radar for a while. The school offered him in June 2023. Since then,  he’s visited Beaver Stadium for two games— against Iowa Sept. 23 and Michigan Nov. 11– and, most recently, took his official visit the last weekend of May. He took his South Carolina OV the next weekend, and those two schools were the only ones he visited on that school’s dime.

Football isn’t the only sport Cyrus excels at.

He’s also a state champion in track— speed is a good quality for a receiver to have—, winning the PA 3A 100-meter title as a sophomore, clocking in at 10.67. His season-best time that yeah in the 100-meter was 10.45, and his best in the 200 was 21.64.

Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Cyrus is the No. 8 player in Pennsylvania and the No. 34 WR in the country.

This would be a big commitment for Penn State for a number of reasons— the main ones being Cyrus talent and the programs struggles at receiver, which plagued the team in 2023 and are the No. 1 concern for many fans in 2024.

Cyrus committing would also be big due to the fact that Penn State has missed out on some of Pennsylvania’s best Class of 2025 prospects.

The No. 1 PA player in the class, Spring-Ford QB Matt Zollers, had Penn State as a finalist but committed to Missouri.

OL Michael Carroll, a legacy prospect from Central Bucks East, committed to Alabama and Zahir Mathis, a star from Philly’s famous Imhotep Charter, is committed to Ohio State (although he did take an OV to Penn State the weekend of June 21).

Penn State does have six PA prospects committed to its Class of 2025.
