Penn State wrestling star Carter Starocci didn’t have a long Big Ten tournament.
Coming into College Park, Maryland this weekend, the health of Penn State’s three-time defending national champion at 174 pounds was in question.
He suffered an injury near the end of his tech fall win against Edinboro Feb. 26, and concern for his future immediately set in.
Starocci was still on the Big Ten tournament bracket as the top seed and he was slated to face Minnesota’s Andrew Sparks in the quarterfinals after a first-round bye. But not wanting to take any chances, Penn State and Starocci decided to take an injury default. Now, if Starocci is the qualify for the national championships, he’ll have to do so by getting an at-large bid.
