Many probably assumed a certain four-star ‘25 prospect would have Penn State as a finalist.
Anthony Sacca is a linebacker.
Penn State’s known as “LBU.”
Sacca’s from Philadelphia, a big PSU area.
Additionally, his father, Tony Sacca, was a starting QB for Joe Paterno, notably helping the 1991 team to an 11-2 record, Fiesta Bowl win and top three ranking. The leading receiver on that team was Terry Smith, who is now Penn State’s defensive recruiting coordinator known for helping land some of PAs top talent well.
Smith was key in helping Penn State land commitments from two of PA’s top linebackers early this week, and perhaps that’s part of why PSU isn’t a finalist for Sacca.

Alabama made it. Duke. Ohio State’s there. So is Notre Dame.
No Penn State.
Sacca visited Penn State late last month as part of one of the program’s Junior Day events.
After the visit, he told PennLive that PSU was “definitely in play” and “still in consideration … with most of my top schools.”
Sacca also told PennLive when he plans on committing.
“It’ll most likely be spring, if not early summer,” Sacca he said. “Right now, I can envision myself going to a few places.”
It’s not 100% clear why PSU didn’t make the cut, but there’s a few possible factors. For one, Penn State has three linebackers committed to its ‘25 class.
Part of it could also be due to the loss of now-Duke head coach Manny Diaz as defensive coordinator.
Although Sacca told PennLive his meeting with new DC Tom Allen was a good one, he noted that Diaz was his primary recruiter.
