Penn State football has landed a commitment from a Class of 2025 WR.
It’s Lyrick Samuel, a four-star, 6-foot-4, 185 pounder from Brooklyn’s Erasmus Hall High School.
Per 247Sports, Samuel had 693 yards and 11 touchdowns on 27 receptions.
Penn State offered him in May. He also has offers from Michigan State, Rutgers and Syracuse. Samuel visited Penn State multiple times after being offered, including for the team’s opener against West Virginia Sept. 2. Samuel’s most recent visit was the weekend of Jan. 20 for one of the school’s Junior Day events.
Samuel is the first receiver to commit to Penn State’s 2025 Class. The program has three stars Josiah Brown, Peter Gonzalez and Tyseer Denmark signed to the ‘24 Class.
Over the summer, Samuel talked with USA Today about his recruitment to Penn State and said the coaching staff “took an interest in me personally.”
“They have made me speak about myself as a person outside of football,” Samuel said.
“They explored my interest and dislikes. That meant a lot because no one has ever asked about Lyrick the person, everyone always seemed interested in Lyrick the football player.”
Samuel also described himself off and on the field.
“Lyrick the person is a son, grandson, older brother and friend. I am a charismatic and loving person,” Samuel said.
“I am a tremendous athlete. But also a hard worker. I have set high standards and expectations for myself. I love to sleep, ride my bike, play with my little brother while teasing my little sister.”
Penn State now has four players committed in February, all taking place within the past 10 days. Of those four, Samuel’s the first skill position player.
