Penn State wrestling got back to business in a big way after a holiday break, beating Oregon State, 36-3, in Corvallis on Friday night. PSU is now 3-0 as they get into Big Ten competition.
Even though the Beavers had nine of their 10 wrestlers ranked coming into Friday, they only managed to get just one win on the night. Trey Munoz, ranked sixth at 184 pounds, picke up a 5-2 victory on PSU’s second-ranked Bernie Truax.
Penn State picked up a pair of huge victories at 125 and 149. Braeden Davis now looks to have a stranglehold on the starting spot at 125. He upset 15th-ranked Brandon Kaylor of Oregon State, 11-6, to open the night’s action.
PSU 149-pounder Tyler Kasak also got an upset as he knocked off 12th-ranked Nash Singleton, 4-1.
Penn State got four technical falls from the upperweights in Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), Carter Starocci (174), Aaron Brooks (197), and Greg Kerkvliet (285).
Aaron Nagao picked up a win by major decision at 133, while Beau Bartlett (141) and Levi Haines (157) both earned regular decisions.
Penn State’s back in action next Sunday, entertaining Indiana at Rec Hall for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
