A Penn State receiver has entered the transfer portal.
Mason Stahl, who played with Penn State for three seasons, has entered the transfer portal, according to Rivals.
Stahl, a 6-foot, 202-pounder, is an in-state product from Baldwin High School in the Pittsburgh Area.
At Baldwin, Stahl was a two-time all-conference performer at Baldwin High School in the Pittsburgh Area. A quarterback, Stahl ended his high school career with 2,543 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, also rushing for more than 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns.
In his first season at Penn State, which was the pandemic-themed 2020 campaign, Stahl didn’t see any game action in his first season at PSU. But he impressed James Franklin and Penn State’s coaching staff enough to be named Developmental Squad Offensive Player of the Year along with offensive linemen Nick Dawkins and Will Knutsson.
Stahl spent the first two seasons of his career as a quarterback, but switched to receiver before the 2022 campaign. Stahl played in nine games over his time at Penn State, being used primarily on special teams. He did almost start a game at quarterback for Penn State late in the 2021 season. A campus-wide illness affected Penn State QBs Sean Clifford, Christian Veilleux and Ta’Quan Roberson.
But Clifford ended up starting, and when he proved ineffective— largely due to sickness— Veilleux relieved him, and Penn State ended up winning 28-0 on Senior Day at Beaver Stadium. Stahl was Penn State’s Developmental Squad Offensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row, sharing the honor with defensive end Dan Vasey.
Stahl was a walk-on throughout his time at Penn State, so the team’s scholarship chart will be unaffected by this transaction.
