A Penn State ‘26 target put on a show Friday morning/afternoon at Acrisure Stadium, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Matt Sieg is only a sophomore, but he’s already a legend at Fort Cherry high school.
The 6-foot, 170 pounder is also a fixture on Fort Cherry’s baseball and basketball teams, but he’s known most for football.
On Friday, Sieg led Fort Cherry to its first WPIAL title win, beating top-seeded South Side 42-28. For context, Fort Cherry was winless five years ago. Now, the team’s 14-0 with a shot to win a state championship. As he has been pretty much all season, Sieg was at the center of Fort Cherry’s success Friday.
Sieg threw two touchdowns and found the end zone thrice more on two rushing scores and a two-point conversion. He also hauled in an interception while playing on defense, and pinned the Rams deep in their own territory with a quick kick.
Sieg’s father, Jeff, is an assistant coach for Fort Cherry, which is located in McDonald, Pennsylvania. Growing up, Jeff Sieg could see Beaver Stadium from his house. So, yeah, he was a Penn State guy. His son is as well.
“It’s rubbed off on me,” Matt Sieg told Nittany Sports Now after Fort Cherry improved to 8-0 in October.
It was only a matter of time before Division I schools started offering Sieg.
“I was just speechless, really,” he said. “It was crazy. I was so happy. Hugged my dad. It was a moment I’ll never forget.”
Since then, Sieg has received offers from Nebraska, Pitt, Syracuse and West Virginia. He visited Penn State for the Nov. 11 game against Michigan, and two weeks before that, Penn State coach James Franklin visited Fort Cherry on his tour of Western Pennsylvania one Friday.
