In Penn State wrestling news, The Nittany Lion Wrestling Club was dominant in the 2023 Final X event on Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Six of the nine wrestlers that were in the finals came out of the best-of-3 series victorious and will represent the United States freestyle team at the Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia in September.

Nick Lee (65 kg), Zain Retherford (70 kg), Kyle Dake (74 kg), David Taylor (86 kg), Kyle Snyder (97 kg), and Jennifer Page (women’s 59 kg) will all be going to Serbia.

Thomas Gilman (57 kg), Jason Nolf (74 kg) and current Penn State wrestling star Aaron Brooks (86 kg) all fell in their finals series. Nolf and Brooks fell to teammates Dake and Taylor, respectively. Gilman lost to Zane Richards.

Penn State wrestling alum Lee picked up a 7-6 and 8-8 victory over Yianni Diakomihalis. Retherford took his first match over Tyler Berger, 11-2, before winning the second, 4-3.

Dake beat Nolf, 6-0 and 3-0, while Taylor beat Brooks, 6-0 and 5-4.

Kyle Snyder was the only participant of the day that didn’t have to wrestle as his opponent J’den Cox was injured and appeared at weigh-ins on crutches. Cox injury defaulted to Snyder in both matches.

Page earned a pair of 11-0 technical falls over Michaela Beck.

The Senior World Championships will be held on Sept. 16 in Belgrade, Serbia.
