Jameel Brown, the sixth highest rated recruit in Penn State basketball history by 247Sports Composite rankings, has withdrawn from the transfer portal and decided to return to Penn State. The 6-foot-4, 188-lbs guard from Philadelphia appeared in 14 games last season, averaging just 4.6 minutes per those games.
Brown came to Penn State as a highly touted recruit, obviously as he’s one of the six best in the history of the program. The Philly prospect was a four-star prospect and the No. 24 shooting guard in the country according to ESPN. He came to Penn State after a high school career split across two schools in Haverford and Westtown. Prior to committing, he decommitted from Purdue.
Brown entered the transfer portal after former head coach Micah Shrewsberry left for Notre Dame. Shrewsberry was a reason that Brown originally chose Penn State over Purdue, among others, but it now appears that it wasn’t the sole reason.
It’s a big retention for new head coach Mike Rhoades who will be without the top five scorers from this past Penn State season, all of which graduated. Three players, including Brown, from Penn State’s class of 2022 entered the portal as well, but Brown joins Kanye Cleary as the second player to announce his return.
