Buddin played at Penn State for two seasons in a reserve role.
In his Twitter statement, Buddin said his time at Penn State “has been nothing short of amazing.”
He and thanked coach James Franklin and his staff for “giving me an opportunity to further my academic and athletic career at one of the most prestigious schools in the country.”
Buddin has three years of eligibility left.
This past season, Buddin appeared in nine of Penn State’s 13 games. He ended the season with eight tackles (four solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, a quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery in Penn State’s 30-0 win over Maryland.
Like most of Penn State’s true freshmen, Buddin redshirted his first college season. He did play in four games, ending the year with four total tackles, and also contributed on special teams.
Before coming to Penn State, Jamari Buddin helped his team to three district championships and a combined 37-4 record over his four seasons at Belleville High School in Michigan. In 2020, Belleville finished a perfect 9-0. Buddin ended the season with 43 tackles, eight tackles for loss and two sacks. Buddin was a three-star recruit according to 247Sports’ composite ratings. He committed to Penn State in July of 2020.
Penn State looks to be loaded at linebacker next season. Abdul Carter will look to build off his fantastic freshman year. Curtis Jacobs is staying in school to continue as the position group’s anchor. Penn State also has three four-star linebackers coming in from the 2023 recruiting class; Tony Rojas (Fairfax, Virginia), Kaveion Keys (Richmond, Virginia) and Ta’Mere Robinson (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.)
In other transfer news from Thursday, former Penn State defensive tackle Fatorma Mulbah, who entered the portal last week, announced his commitment to West Virginia. Penn State opens its 2023 season against West Virginia at Beaver Stadium Sept. 2.
