Dane Brugler, National NFL Draft Analyst for the Athletic updated the list of his Top 50 prospects in college football and he has two current Penn State players and one former Penn State player in his top 25.
Brugler has Penn State left tackle Olu Fashanu as his fifth-best prospect, cornerback Joey Porter Jr. as the No. 15 rated prospect, and former Penn State and current Kentucky quarterback Will Levis as the No. 23 rated prospect.
Fashanu is the biggest riser on his list because he was not rated when Brugler made his previous list back in August. Although he has only nine career starts on his resume, however, he has been impressive this season. Brugler describes Fashanu as a player that plays 50 pounds lighter than his 6-foot-5, 320-pound frame when facing speed rushers. He could get caught a little bit upright against power rushers, but his strength makes up for it. Fashanu will only be 20 years old when the draft rolls around, and he has a high upside at a premier position.
Brugler describes Porter Jr. as a physical press-man corner that has the length and movement skills to jam and ride the receivers downfield. He has the ball skills and the football IQ to be a starting cornerback on an NFL team on day one. Brugler’s only concern for Porter is he is too aggressive at times that draws penalties and only has one career interception.
Levis has the size, mobility, durability, and arm talent that scouts dream of, however, Brugler thinks he is one of the most complicated prospects in the 2023 draft class because his on-field production has been too inconsistent. If Levis can find the right coach that can harness his skillset, then he may be the best quarterback out of this draft class.
