STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Devyn Ford is no longer with Penn State’s football program, head coach James Franklin announced during his postgame press conference after the team’s win over Northwestern on Saturday.
Ford had been with Penn State since the 2019 season and was the last of Penn State’s “LawnBoyz” running backs quartet that helped the team to its last 10+ win campaign.
Of those four, Ricky Slade transferred to Old Dominion after the 2019 season. Journey Brown had to leave football for medical reasons, and Noah Cain transferred to LSU after the 2021 campaign.
Ford was noticeably absent in Penn State’s 17-7 win over Northwestern at Beaver Stadium Saturday. Usually, he was one of the team’s primary kick returners, along with freshman sensation Nick Singleton, and also contributed snaps on offense.
Franklin said Ford is leaving the program to focus on academics, and it’s safe to say he’ll miss having Ford around.
“Devyn Ford is one of my favorites,” Franklin said after Penn State’s 41-12 win over Auburn in Week 3. “I shouldn’t have favorites.”
Ford has seven carries for 37 yards this season and 140 carries for 666 yards and six touchdowns in his Penn State career.
