Wrestling fans aren’t used to seeing Penn State star Carter Starocci being pushed to the limit.
But it happened Sunday evening in Evanston.
Through three periods, nobody had won the bout between Starocci and Minnesota’s redshirt freshman sensation Max McEnelly.
But the veteran Starocci got a takedown, and thus his third Big Ten Championship. The Big Ten Tournament hasn’t been kind to Starocci.
In 2021, lost in the finals Iowa’s Michael Kemerer. Last season, he didn’t compete at Big Tens due to a serious knee injury, a decision Starocci wasn’t happy with coach Cael Sanderson about.
But whether Big Tens have led to disappointment or glory— the latter of which has now happened three times for Starocci— he’s followed up with an NCAA Title in each of his four seasons.
He’ll look to make it five later this month in Philadelphia.
