Penn State Appears to Be in Good Position With 2023 OL Austin ‘House’ Ramsey

Penn State hosted a number of big recruits last weekend, which included 2023 3-star offensive tackle Austin “House” Ramsey.

“House” is an appropriate nickname considering his size of 6-foot-7, 330-pounds. Ramsey is Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and is ranked the No. 11 overall junior prospect in Pennsylvania. At this stage of his recruitment, Ramsey holds offers from Penn State, Boston College, Illinois, Kentucky, Pitt, Rutgers, Temple, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Today, Ramsey received his latest offers from Nebraska and Miami.

Unlike some of the players on campus, this wasn’t Ramsey’s first visit to State College, as he made two unofficial visits last season in September and November.

Despite having a familiarity with State College and some of the Penn State coaches, Ramsey believes it was still an important visit for him as he works his way towards deciding on his eventual college.

“Despite being there before, I never really had an opportunity to see the Penn State campus until this visit,” Ramsey tells NSN. “Getting to see the campus, it was like they have their own little college town. I thought it was pretty cool. Also, it was really nice to see both Coach Trautwine and Coach Franklin. My family and I had a chance to sit-down and talk with them which was really cool. Their message to me was that they really like me and that they’re going to be recruiting me hard. We also talked about some of my weight room numbers.”

“It was also good to see my main recruiter, Coach Smith. He’s been able to stop in a few times at my school, but we were able to talk a while over the weekend. I’ve come to learn that Coach Smith is such an easy person to talk with and so hospitable. He’s also very informative to me and my family about Penn State. It’s been very helpful.”

Along with his visits to Penn State, Ramsey has also made visits to Pitt, Rutgers (twice) and West Virginia. Coming up, Ramsey says that he’d like to plans on attending spring practices for both Pitt and Boston College. Considering the fact that he’s been able to get on campus of a few schools, does Ramsey have any idea of when he could be making a decision?

“As far as when I will make a decision, I think it’s going to come before the season so that I won’t have to worry about it during my senior season,” said Ramsey. “Soon, I think I’m going to come out with a Top Five.”

It sounds as though, Penn State is in a good position with him, but when I asked where they actually stood with him, Ramsey only had this to say.

“They’re definitely one of my top picks right now, I like them a lot.”
