Monday was supposed to be the start of high school basketball season, with area teams set to take the court for the opening of preseason practice. However, Gov. Wolf’s decision last week to shut down high school sports for three weeks means that local student-athletes once again are in limbo and have to wait for their opportunity to play.
Bishop Guilfoyle girls basketball coach Kristi Kaack and Altoona boys basketball coach Jarrod Klausman joined “Sports Central with Cory Giger” on WRTA in Altoona last week to discuss the impact of all this on the high school athletes.
Klausman was on the show just hours before Wolf’s decision to delay high school sports. He did discuss numerous topics about how the young athletes are impacted by the pandemic.
Kaack talked about how the delay will impact the players in her program and how they’ve been through a lot already, having their season cut short last year while in the PIAA state tournament.
