Division I Council Waives Bowl Requirements for 2020 Postseason

College football teams will face no eligibility requirements for the 2020 season the Division I Council announced Wednesday.

The Council decided to waive both bowl eligibility requirements and the minimum number of games for every football team.

โ€œIn keeping with the Division I membershipโ€™s desire to provide maximum flexibility during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Council voted to allow as many student-athletes as possible the opportunity to participate in bowl games this year,โ€ said Council chair M. Grace Calhoun. โ€œThe decision also provides some certainty for schools and coaches as we move toward the postseason.โ€

Normally, a team would need to have a .500 overall record to qualify for a postseason bowl game.

The council also decided that postseason bowl games will be played between Dec. 1, 2020 and Jan. 11, 2021.
