Penn State OC on Alex Manske: ‘We’re Not Going to be Able to Keep Him off the Field’

Penn State football knows who its starting quarterback will be this season.

But could the backup get more playing time than some might think?

By the words of the Penn State offensive coordinator, the answer might be yes.

“We’re not going to be able to keep him off the field this year,” Penn State OC Taylor Mouser said of Alex Manske late Tuesday morning.

Moments after Mouser finished speaking, head coach Matt Campbell took the podium, and the first question of the presser was a follow up on Manske.

“I think the first thing is Alex has certainly deserved the right to be able to get on the field,” Campbell said. “Even a year ago, if you watched us play, we were able to find ways to get him into the football game and impact the game in a positive way.”

“Alex does a lot of things well. Obviously, each week is game-plan specific. We try to figure out where he can plug in and where he can give us an advantage in the football game.”

Manske spent his true freshman season in 2025 playing at Iowa State, where Campbell, Mouser and QB Rocco Becht were before coming to Happy Valley.

Regardless of how much Manske gets on the field in 2025, Becht is confident that he’ll be up to the challenge if and when he becomes the guy.

“In the future, when all the seniors are gone and it’s his team, he’s going to be able to rock and roll,” Becht said.
